Really good app. It’s easy to learn both words and sentences, and exactly the ones I just can’t remember))

Akronful

I used to feel like I was stuck in one place. Now I can at least see progress: words gradually start to feel “familiar”, then I start remembering them. Not instantly, but steadily

I learned about this app from an article on a website. At first the app was very raw and hard to use. But in literally a month the core features were polished, and now I use this app every day. I hope the author won’t abandon the project.

It would be really cool to add the ability to add new words right from the examples

Latvian: what is hardest to remember

Many people who move to Latvia for work get by in English for months — until a lease, a doctor or a colleague’s small talk needs Latvian. The language has seven noun cases, two genders and long vowels that change the meaning of a word. A word list without examples or audio never turns into speech.

  • Vowel length is spelled out (ā, ē, ī, ū) and changes the word: kaza is a goat, kāzas is a wedding — so you need to hear it, not just read it.
  • Seven cases and no articles: the ending tells you the role of a word, which is easier to absorb from a real sentence than from a table.
  • Stress almost always falls on the first syllable, and audio helps with the soft consonants ķ, ģ, ļ, ņ.

Frequently asked questions

Is Latvian hard to learn for English speakers?
It takes effort: nouns change by case and every word has a gender. In return, spelling is phonetic and stress is predictable, so once you hear a word you can read and say it.
How do I learn Latvian words for work and relocation?
Add the words you meet at work, in emails and in everyday errands. VibeLing builds a card with translation, examples and audio and brings each word back for review before you forget it.
How many Latvian words do I need for daily life?
A few hundred frequent words cover shops, transport and small talk. Start with those, then add vocabulary from your own job and neighbourhood.
How is VibeLing different from Anki?
You do not build cards or tune intervals by hand: the app prepares the translation, examples and pronunciation and schedules reviews itself.
Can I learn words I add myself?
Yes. In VibeLing you can add any Latvian words and phrases yourself — from books, shows, lessons, work or everyday conversations. For every word the app builds a card with translation, examples and pronunciation.
