A spelling trainer: build the word letter by letter until it sticks
Recognising a word in a text is half the job; writing it without mistakes is the other half. In the spelling exercise you see the translation and build the word letter by letter, or a phrase of three or more words word by word. A wrong letter lights up at once, so the wrong spelling never sticks.
How the exercise works
Active recall
You don’t pick the word from options — you recall and build it yourself, so it stays in memory more firmly.
Mistakes show at once
A wrong letter flashes red and doesn’t go into the word, so the correct spelling is what you remember.
First-letter hint
If a word longer than three letters just won’t come, reveal the first letter and build the rest.
Phrases word by word
An expression of three or more words is built from words in the right order, so you practise word order as well as spelling.
How the exercise goes

Questions and answers
How many mistakes are allowed?
About 30% of the word’s length, but at least one: three in a ten-letter word. With more, the answer doesn’t count and the word comes back sooner.
Can I type on a keyboard?
In the web version on a computer, yes — type the letters straight from the keyboard. In the phone app you build the word from letter tiles.
How does the exercise tie into reviews?
It is one of the spaced-repetition exercises: each word gets spelling in turn with the other exercises, and your result affects when the word comes back.
Can I turn the exercise off?
Yes, in the training settings. But it’s worth keeping: without it a word is easy to recognise and hard to write.
