El hombre for humanity in general — el hombre ha cultivado la tierra — now reads as dated in Spanish exactly as man does in English, and careful writing prefers el ser humano or la humanidad.
What the card leaves out is the commonest use of all in Spain. ¡Hombre! on its own is an interjection, not a noun: surprise, mild protest, gentle disagreement — roughly well! or come on!. It is addressed to women as freely as to men, so ¡hombre, no me digas! from one woman to another is entirely ordinary, and in casual speech it drops into sentences the way English uses man, only far more often.
mujer woman
The pair, and it has its own interjection: ¡mujer! works the same way, said to women only.
ser humano human being
What replaces el hombre in the general sense in anything written after about 1990.
persona person
Feminine whoever it refers to: la persona, even about a man.
gente people
Singular in Spanish and plural in English — la gente es, the people are.
