Download the app for free Spanish vocabulary testOne word where English has two, and then a third. Correo is the postal service, a letter in the post, and an email — all at once. Un correo in everyday Spanish almost always means an email; the full form correo electrónico exists but nobody says it.
Capitalised and in the plural, Correos is the Spanish postal company itself, the way Royal Mail is in Britain. And the verb for putting a letter in a postbox is echar, not mandar: echar una carta al correo.
correo electrónico email — the full form
Correct, complete and almost never spoken. Correo on its own does the job.
carta letter
The thing sent; correo is the system that sends it. Carta also means a menu and a playing card.
correo basura spam
Literally rubbish mail. Spam is understood too, and increasingly common.
envía sends
Enviar and mandar both work. Echar is the specific one for dropping a letter into a postbox.
